Pharrell Williams is and will always be an icon in Music, Style and Culture. To have such an artist serving as the focal point to create artistry is iconic itself. Yellows and Reds illuminating this figure in front of the bland and out of focus background is telling. What a GREAT image for such an impact subject.
A true lesson in creating a compelling composition for your subjects in commercial and artistic photography.

We believe that there is nothing as Beautifully Magnificent or more Divine than that of the African American, African and Ethnic Woman…including others of Melanated Skin and Ethnic origin.
She compels you to the belief that she—SHE—is the Goddess for whom walks upon this earth.
Talking Art, Design and Photography (and everything in between) is a passion of ours. Looking to the past is a significant part of the process in understanding and appreciating where we are today. Shape, order, composition and orientation of symbols may look like an interesting collection of intellectual thought to one while to another, the entire just a collective piece speaks just one profound message of beauty.

LET THERE BE NO MISTAKE…
…the Bethesda Arts Festival is not a place for the faint of heart—you either come to spend some cash or be annoyed by those who seem to be know-it-all’s of the “Art” world.
All that can be said from a Creative of Color is that there are places where you’ll see who’s clearly clamoring for attention to pay the bills and who—most likely—doesn’t have either the capital or the relationships to be included.
The Bethesda Arts Festival seems to be a showy upscale snobby type of environment that does very little to be really diverse and inclusive of others unless you fit a specific profile. What we experienced was basically a follow-up to last years participants and products with most artists being Caucasian and notably obnoxious when it came down to discussing their work with certain interested parties.
While there was a lot of inspiration there provided by the many types of work, there was an apparent desire for diversity and more meaningfully cordial and welcoming individuals to inform and discuss their works. Defined as “the Washington, DC area’s premier outdoor fine arts festival”, yes, this is an event for a certain type. With that said, there are many things to appreciate especially as it operates within one of the nation’s most affluent and economically rich communities. Get a chance to strike up the right conversation and you might learn a lot…but those conversations might require a friend or two that are already within the “know”.
As a business local to the Bethesda area, we once had a goal of getting involved within such an organization but…I think we’ll keep to our small circle and see how things go into the future. Don’t get us wrong, the place has potential…but it seems the horses they ride stand a little too high to even believe.
*Our comments are just a post-event review and accounting of the event itself. We do not at all intend for any detrimental impressions but more an accurate perspective of how it felt to be there.

While we operate in three categories that are often broad and sweeping between industries, Art, Design and Photography have become the static cornerstones of discernible creativity. Whether with a brush, a computer program or a proper lens, composition and the aesthetic elements of a scene are key to evoking the right feelings.
As we view the images above, we encourage the audience to extract a type of feeling about images so clean and sharp and well composed. Within professional photography, we like to emphasize the importance of feeling within a composition. In informing and educating other about composition, the artistry—as we see it—is in imagining your subject or target scene on canvas or framed mounted upon a wall. It doesn’t always take planning or forethought but more an understand of the scene to be translated on a flat medium.
Our hope is to further encourage and inspire a resurgence of artistry within photography that is distinct for African and Ethnic American communities leaning away from the commercialization of human bodies to a study and revelation of beauty in other aspects of life. Yes, reality is essential to communicate within these communities but positivity and positive messages should not be costing our collective dignities and respect.
Hopefully, this post helps to inform and inspire creatives of Color and Ethnicity to not get caught up on the popular trends but to realize the great potential of just shooting clean and well-organized scenes. Take these images and build upon the concepts and ideas to create your own potential masterpieces of the camera and lens.
